Making Us One: Stephen Kauffman

N/WLMS4 @ Yahoo! Video
This is the first in a series of short testimonial videos I produced for the North/West Lower Michigan Synod (ELCA) as part of their “Making Us One” campaign. The synod is planning a new center for mission and ministry in DeWitt, Michigan. The center will house a joint Lutheran, Episcopal congregation, the new mission and ministry center and the synod office.

This video is one of eleven testimonials produced for the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin Book of Faith initiative. James Homme is a retired ELCA pastor. During the Korean war, Jim found himself occupying a forward observation post along the 38th parallel. “In the daytime it was a lark,” Jim relates. “But at night, it was terrifying.” In the video we see how Jim found comfort in the 27th Psalm. www.frakesproductions.com

3 Faiths, 2 Countries, 1 Peace

New years day, 2009 will find me back in the Holy Land. I will be documenting the spiritual journey of seven American Christians as they visit various sites in and around Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah.

You can visit our team web site: 3 Faiths, 2, Countries, 1 Peace for more information, blog posts, photos and video clips as we travel.  Kathleen Adam, leader of the group asked me to come along. Kathleen is a student at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. This pilgrimage is part of her seminary program.  The recorded footage will also be used to cut together a Spiritual Journey segment for 30 Good Minutes, on WTTW Channel 11 (PBS) in Chicago.

St. Paul Davenport

My friend, Pastor Peter Marty, asked me to help St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa, craft a video for their capital campaign “Acting with Love for the World.”  St. Paul is a robust, century old congregation in the heart of the city.  The campaign links financial giving with service through support of the public schools.  St. Paul is  more than a big church with a shinny new building.  They are making a difference in their community.

During the shoot, artisans from the Utah-based M. L. Bigelow and Co. assembled a 36-foot-tall pipe organ. The instrument is international – keyboards come from England, metal pipes from Holland, and reed pipes from Germany.

Several video projects are on the agenda. We will tell stories about the organization, which began in 1892, and interview staff, residents and their families.
