Bethesda Lutheran Communities, Boy Family
Posted by timfrakes | Filed under Dissabilities, Interesting People, Tim Frakes Productions
My friend and colleague from our days together at the ELCA Lutheran Center, Sue Edison-Swift, asked me to help her new employer, Bethesda Lutheran Communities, tell stories about their work. The mission of Bethesda Lutheran Communities is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through services that share the good news of Jesus Christ.
This is the story of Leigh Boy and his parents. Leigh lives in a Bethesda group home near Houston, Texas. His parents, now older adults, talk about the importance of knowing that their son, Leigh, is well cared for now, and will continue to be well cared for after they can no longer take care of him themselves.
Jan Nowak, a producer and communicator with Bethesda, coordinated the production and conducted the interviews.

This is a video I produced for the Florida-Bahamas Synod of the ELCA for their 2010 Synod Assembly through Kairos and Associates. The family and I (minus Emily who is away at college) toured Florida for a week; Naples to Fort Lauderdale, Port St. Lucie to Clearwater. They played while I recorded stories of mission and ministry. I did manage a sunset in Naples and 6 holes of golf in Port St. Lucie! Here are the results.

Returning to Uganda
Posted by timfrakes | Filed under Africa, News

Sunday morning after a meeting in New York with Intersections International about an upcoming shoot in the Middle East, I leave for a short return visit to Uganda for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Two years ago I produced a documentary about the Acholi people in Northern Uganda and their quest to forgive a rebel movement that killed thousands and forced them into internally displaced person camps for more than twenty years. Here is a link:

The ELCA now has an opportunity to have this program air on ABC television this winter. I will be returning to Uganda to update the program and add an additional six minutes. Since the original program, the Acholi people have returned to their villages. But a major drought has struck the region. Crops have failed and people face widespread hunger.
Look for updates here and on my Facebook Page.
