Returning to Uganda
Posted by timfrakes | Filed under Africa, News

Sunday morning after a meeting in New York with Intersections International about an upcoming shoot in the Middle East, I leave for a short return visit to Uganda for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Two years ago I produced a documentary about the Acholi people in Northern Uganda and their quest to forgive a rebel movement that killed thousands and forced them into internally displaced person camps for more than twenty years. Here is a link:

The ELCA now has an opportunity to have this program air on ABC television this winter. I will be returning to Uganda to update the program and add an additional six minutes. Since the original program, the Acholi people have returned to their villages. But a major drought has struck the region. Crops have failed and people face widespread hunger.
Look for updates here and on my Facebook Page.

Making Us One Final from Tim Frakes on Vimeo.
This is a video I produced for the North/West Lower Michigan Synod (N/WLMS) of the ELCA. Kairos and Associates is helping the N/WLMS develop an new center for mission and ministry campus is DeWitt, Michigan. The facility will house an existing congregation, a mission center and the synod offices. Given the state of the economy in Michigan, this is a bold step of faith.

St. Paul Davenport

My friend, Pastor Peter Marty, asked me to help St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa, craft a video for their capital campaign “Acting with Love for the World.” St. Paul is a robust, century old congregation in the heart of the city. The campaign links financial giving with service through support of the public schools. St. Paul is more than a big church with a shinny new building. They are making a difference in their community.
During the shoot, artisans from the Utah-based M. L. Bigelow and Co. assembled a 36-foot-tall pipe organ. The instrument is international – keyboards come from England, metal pipes from Holland, and reed pipes from Germany.

Several video projects are on the agenda. We will tell stories about the organization, which began in 1892, and interview staff, residents and their families.

My friend the Rev. Mark Brown, is the Lutheran World Federation Regional Representative in Jerusalem. Last February, Mark asked me to help out with a promotional video for the Augusta Victoria Hospital.
The Lutheran World Federation’s Augusta Victoria Hospital has served Palestinian refugees since 1950. The mission of Augusta Victoria Hospital is to alleviate human suffering, promote peace and civil society, provide health care without regard to race, creed, gender, or national origin, provide services for those in social need with priority services to Palestinian refugees and commit to the development and maintenance of the highest standard of diagnostic and clinical service.
In honor of his wife, Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany built Augusta Victoria in 1910, as a hospice and rest home on the Mount of Olives, overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem.

Tanzania Jubilee
Posted by timfrakes | Filed under Africa, Education, Faith Based Production, History
This video recounts the history of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. I produced it back in 1992 in the Swahili language with the help of Lutheran Missionary Howard Olsen.
The roots of organized Lutheranism in the nation now known as Tanzania had their origin in the late 19th century. The work began in 1887 in the capitol city of Dar es Salaam with the Bethel Mission Society and subsequently spread to Usambara in 1892 and then Bukoba in 1910. This video documents the growth of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania from its missionary beginings up to the 1960′s.

This is a video I put together after the Tsunami. My pals, Jim Quattrocki, Kevin Jacobson and I went to Tamil Nadu, India one month after the big Tsunami disaster on Christmas, 2005. Jim did most of the videography. Some of it is mine. The actual disater footage comes from a wedding guy we met in India. This video is unusual because I am the on-camera host.
